In response to a surge in gang-related bombings, with over 30 incidents in January 2025, Sweden plans to expedite legislation allowing police to monitor minors' electronic communications. This move aims to address the recruitment of youths by gangs for violent activities. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance tools to combat organized crime. The proposed law would enable police to access minors' mobile phones and electronic communications, targeting those orchestrating crimes remotely. Despite a decrease in deadly shootings and increased convictions, the government seeks to strengthen measures against gang violence.
